Books I am Reading and Pages I am Writing 199.0

Books I own and read

My cousin in New York, upon receiving her copy of Mabini by Majul, thanked me by email and asked. “Do you really read several books at once?”

Indeed, after some thought, I realized it is a lot of work to support this blog
.
The picture at left shows the books in my big “To Read” pile.

Beyond the usual, I am going out of my way now to ‘smell the flowers’ – meet people, join forums, watch birds and, in general, stay aware of the environment – to support SYNTHESiST.

I own a copy of all the books that I mention on the Amazon widget, Books I’m Reading Now, at the right sidebar.

Most are new. Others are so good that each re-read reveals new insights. Others remain half-read awaiting suitable companion books.

The spring-bound book at the bottom is Joel Rocamora’s Nationalism in Search of Ideology (1965) on the Sukarno era in Indonesia that is out of print. The book is well recommended by P.N. Abinales.

I could not find any copy for sale despite heroic effort until I thought about the U.P. Diliman Library. The good Professor, who is keeping busy as ideologue at the Liberal Party, did not have time for a meeting before the elections. I still hope to buy a copy of the book and interview him after then.

I hope all these reading, including all the books referred to in the blog posts, does contribute to my ultimate project of building a domain in: innovation and change management for emerging markets.

In blog jargon, posts are time sensitive records that are jotted like entries in a diary.

Pages, on the other hand, are static and less time-sensitive. For SYNTHESiST, I lodge pages on the navigation line to build up on components of my chosen domain.

Neo-Confucian Wang Yang Ming and his magnum opus

For now, these relevant pages are: EM Innovation and EM Changes. The current page et Mabini will be transformed into my list of exemplars of teachers in history as leaders of Change.

Karl Popper

Karl popper’s two books Open Society and its Enemies and the Logic of Scientific Discovery serve as book ends to the Page on Change.

The Page on Innovation is the kernel of a working hypothesis on a new model for a proposed enhancement of global surveys to cover emerging markets more fairly.

Yoshida Shoin, Shoka sonjuku Sensei

These include Yoshida Shoin, the Choshu sensei of the Meiji reformers, and Wang Yang Ming, the 14th century neo-Confucian idealist who was his inspiration.

Two possible pages for the future will cover Sustainability and Social Enterprise. The two subjects seem to strike a chord globally.

This 199th post seem a good milestone to blue sky about the future as any.
