Highest Alexa Rank Ever Domain Ownership and Survey Updates 175.0

SYNTHESiST rises above #1 million. Surveys describe its readers.
As I thought, the mathematical formula behind Alexa’s ranking quickly brought SYNTHESiST above the 1 millionth from the low 8.6 million rank when I enrolled on December 25, 2009.

Today, Alexa ranks SYNTHESiST at #983,845, its highest ever.

Sulit.com.ph is the highest ranked Filipino site at #1,821. The Inquirer is at #3,325. Market Manila, an ad-free and content-focused blog, is ranked at #86,591. Cocktales is ranked today by Alexa at #620,505.

The ranking curve is logarithmic so it will take more and more effort as one moves closer and closer to the top.

For SYNTHESiST, the trajectory of the rise has already started to slow down. I would be happy with a rank around 800,000 by March 24, the 90th day anniversary when the whole three-month ranking formula would have played out and 13 months since I started publishing..

The Google PageRank remains at 3/10 for SYNTHESiST.

I am working behind the screen with more SEO techniques to further improve SYNTHESIST, as a product if only as a challenge.

Rank in Keyword Search. For the first time in SYNTHESiST, we report the results of keyword search.

Putting innovation on the Google search box as one-word keyword, I have not bothered to dig into the pages to find where the first mention of a SYNTHESiST post would be found. A total of 100,000,000 results were found in a search I conducted today.

For the two-phrase keywords innovation and emerging markets placed on the search box, the first mention of a SYNTHESiST post is in line 10 of page 3 with 3,920,000 results.  If the second phrase emerging markets is enclosed in quotation marks, their is a slight improvement to line 7 of page 3 with 2,050,000 results.

For the three-phrase keywords innovation, emerging markets and change management with the last two phrases enclosed in quotation marks to indicate each as one keyword, the SYNTHESiST post Technology Innovation Strategy for Emerging Markets 156.0 | Synthesist appears on line 1 of page 1 with 105,000 results.

This indicates that I have a change to capture the intended SYNTHESiST domain of innovation and change management in emerging markets with more strategically written posts designed for keyword search in SEO.

In fact, searching for the whole domain phrase today already points to the same post above in line 1 of page 1 and the category of posts under “change management|SYNTHESiST” in line 2 of page 1 with 1,830,000 results but it is a precarious top two position. More needs to be done to populate this domain with relevant posts for SYNTHESiST to really own the domain.

Poll Survey Results. We have conducted three poll surveys thus far and the results have been interesting.

Caveat. We caution ourselves in interpreting the results of the surveys as there is a built-in bias in surveys of this type.

There is a bias of self-selection as those who responded to the polls are all readers of SYNTHESiST. That implies they have access to computers and blogs.

They would be relatively well read and, given the subject of the blog, they would be in technical and/or senior position.

They would also be relatively older than the general population.

In fact, to me, they tell more about SYNTHESiST’s readership than about the general population.

Survey 1. The result indicates that the respondents are relatively optimistic and think things can be done to improve the situation in the Philippine. About 70% believe the Philippines will emerge and become a first world country. No time frame is specified in the question.

Survey 2. The big winner with 73% of votes support innovation and entrepreneurship as the desired . Improving tax collection efforts especially on business es and professionals was a substantial second..

Interestingly, there was no support to increasing overseas Filipino worker (OFW) deployment and much less on increasing collection of consumption taxes like VAT.

Survey 3. As of today, the big winner among the Presidential candidates is Gibo Teodoro among SYNTHESiST readers with 42% of the vote.

Noynoy Aquino is second with half of Gibo Teodoro’s at 21% while Dick Gordon and Manny Villar had half again at 11% each. The four candidates have 85% of total votes.

No SYNTHESiST reader voted for Erap Estrada.

We have closed Survey 3 for now, one week after it started, but will repeat it in mid-March. It will be interesting to track the changes.

Next Report. Obviously, SYNTHESiST readers represent a small and non-representative sub-set of the total population.

I would like to think most would be in the leadership but professional or entrepreneurial cohort.

My next report will be on March 25, three months after SYNTHESiST’s Alexa enrollment.

At 50 years of age, this learning-by-doing and continuously is so much fun!

(Note: The flurry of SYNTHESiST news and stories comes about from my work to develop the strategic direction for the second year of the blog’s life.)
