Looking for a Better Way – to Eat Tacos 239.0

I love the tacos at Pancake House. I take two at a time with whatever I order.

Sitting before my usual yesterday, I wondered if there is a better way to eat it without scattering cheese bits all over my plate.

IE classmates, if you know a better way, please share by return email. I did write one way that I finally thought out today below.

As an industrial engineer, living the IE life, as did Frederick Taylor – the father of Scientific Management, does intrude into everyday life because part of our training is in observation skills.

College Memories.Thinking about a better way to eat tacos brought back a flood of memories from way back college in the late 1970s as an industrial engineering student at University in Cebu.

To get to live the IE ideal according to Frederick Taylor, the father of scientific management as I posted in SYNTHESiST, we used to challenge each other playfully on the statement, “There is always a better way!”

We asked our barkada things like, “What is the better way to water that plant?” or “What is the shorter path from Point A to Point B?”

We also trained ourselves in observation skills, a very important skill for industrial engineers, with challenges like “Without looking down, how many buttons are there on your shirt?” or “How many doors did you pass coming up the stairs to here?”

My way with tacos. Finally, I did try out a way that does not get the cheese bits to scatter.

The key, it seems, to minimizing the mess is to keep the taco level, and bend the head correspondingly to bite from one end as in the picture.

IE Life. Getting IE embedded in ones’ life, as with moments like above, seems weird but I tell you, from my classmates in traditional IE in Cebu, and friends who finished Industrial Management Engineering from La Salle, also live their IE in their lives.

The do not like queues, impulse shopping. They do like prepositioning for completed work even in a rush and do not mind less protocol, like coordinated meeting in place, for the sake of efficiency.

A light post on a Saturday!
