Makati Streets Get Technology Hope Pasay Gets It 126.7
My hat’s off to the Makati Parking Authortity (MAPA) for investing in such innovative IT-enabled instruments. The photo at left shows the M-Pad used by a traffic warden at Legazpi Village to collect parking fees and print receipts.
It has a large potential for cost savings in delivering parking service as remittance and accounting are automated. It can also reduce the need for checkers and supervision as the instrument helps make it easier for the wardens to stay honest.
A of yesterday, though, I do not think MAPA has yet looked at reducing manning and improving productivity. There were three wardens at the very short street.
I do hope the city officials also give similar instruments to the traffic enforcers in Pasay City (the former infamous tsokolate boys).
There will be lesser petty corruption if a receipt like the one at right is given immediately on the street after a traffic fine is charged and paid. Minor traffic violators will immediately pay the fine if they immediately get a receipt than lose time paying at City Hall. The system will also help make the enforcers honest in the collection.
Again, kudos to Makati’s MAPA!
