Quickie Thoughts!

Noynoy Aquino has announced his candidacy for President and mentions Rep Risa Hontiveros-Baraquel of party-list Akbayan as possible candidate for Senator.

From yesterday’s post , this indicates a strategic alliance of sorts between two of four key factions in Philippine society.

On one hand, if the formal agreement was reached with Akbayan, this is a coup for Noynoy as this means Akbayan and a significant part of the activist sector will keep Hacienda Luisita off as campaign issue.

On the other hand, it would be interesting to know what Akbayan is asking for in return. This time around the Populist Left will have learned the lesson from the boycott stance they took in the 1980s that left them out in the cold when Cory took power after the EDSA Revolution. This participation – as robust conversation – can only be good for us.
